Nike: "Voices"

This video demonstrates the gender discrimination that still exists in sports. Although girls can play sports now, you will always have those ignorant people that will put down women's sports.

Finally Some Notice

Just yesterday, both soccer teams at DC played in their regional championships. The girls' team one while the guys' team lost unfortunately. But, both teamss had great support from the fans. The girls' team played at Deer Park while the guys played in Ohio County. Many students and fans came to support the guys although the longer travel to the game than usual. Although I didn't go to the game, I know for a fact there was a good student crowd. The support for the fans at both games made me realize that support does exist for soccer. But what about other sports like cross country? Rarely anyone goes to their meets. They don't get recognized nearly enough for their hard work through the season.
Now that Fall sports are coming to an end I am interested to see how the fans are distributed between the Winter sports. Will the boys' basketball team get all the attention? Or will the other sports get some of the student's attention? I guess we will just have to wait to see.

Nike ATHLETE Campaign Commercial

Girls Deserve Fans too

So many high school sports that are being played, but some get more attention than others. It is a known fact that there are more fans for guys games. It doesn't matter the sport, whether it's basketball, soccer, or any other sport. I, being a basketball player, can tell this easily that girls basketball isn't too popular. On a normal night, there may be a few loyal fans that show up to support the Lady Panthers. But, on a normal night for the guys team there will be a whole student section standing up and cheering for them. While I think school spirit is great, why can't there be a little more spirit for the girls teams? They work equally hard and should get more support from students at Daviess County. I hope one day girls playing sports will stop being thought upon as weird by some people. Girls are just as capable and should get the attention they deserve.

Lack of Fans

This is a picture of a crowd at a WNBA game. This is one example of how sports are treated differently even out of high school. There's very little promotion for the WNBA.

Equality in Sports

Sports is a normal part of high school. There's football, basketball, volleyball, golf, soccer, track, cross country, swimming, softball, baseball, and i really hope I'm not missing any others. But out of all these sports a few get more attention than the others. Football, for one, is very big at Daviess County. Now i do understand it's a ritual and it is fun for everybody to go to these games. But what about all the other sports? They get very little attention. Although Boys basketball has a good crowd the games, the other sports wont have one barely at all. Soccer has always done good but they get no recognition for it. Along with the rest of them. Football and boys basketball is just held at a higher pedestal than the rest of them. The other teams don't get recognition for all the hard work they put in year long. In my opinion the game times aren't promoted enough throughout the school enough for the not as popular sports. But, I also know it's not just about that. I admit that I have gone to football and basketball games and i have never once been to a volleyball or baseball game. But i will be attending more games this school year. I just think we need to see some equality when it comes to sports teams.
